Newfoundland & Labrador doesn’t have enough long-term care beds. People are living at home or lying in hospital beds when they need to be in long-term care.

The current government says the answer is privatization. That’s because privatization means government can wash its hands of responsibility. Because unlike governments, corporations answer only to their shareholders.

Yet, research and the experience in other provinces clearly shows residents of private long-term care facilities receive fewer hours of care and fewer services. They’re less healthy, and less happy. And privatization costs more – not less. So privatization of long-term care is NOT the answer.

During this provincial election, tell the three political parties where you stand by sending them this letter saying you’re opposed to privatizing long-term care.

Because once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
